Introduction

We study basic materials and what goes together to make paint. Paint recipes are included. These educational tools will show you how to improve the materials you use, the intensity of the colors and longevity. This class will provide a recipe book and bibliography that you will use for your entire career in art.

In the lecture series, we begin with old media and forms, and progress to present day use. Later we will try to predict what the future will bring. Learning the basics of painting media and how to use them -- these are the necessary skills for any painter. This class will explain what options are available so that artists make choices from knowledge not ignorance. If you would paint, you need this information.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: For the experienced painter, their paints, brushes, painting surfaces (canvas, board, paper). For the inexperienced painter a sketchbook and notebook for taking notes. We will discuss the materials and sources at the first session. for those who bring paint and brushes, we will also do a little work after the demonstration. A suggested list of supplies will be provided to each student who signs up for the class.
