A
Workshop Class by Jon Rader Jarvis
Increase
your watercolor knowledge and greatly improve the impact of your
paintings by learning how to combine the watercolor technique
that you already know with other water-based media, such as watercolor
crayon, pen and ink, acrylic, and colored gesso. Jon has earned
a reputation for creating uniquely beautiful mixed media effects
in his painting. A specialist in painting materials and techniques,
he will teach these and other techniques through demonstration
and individual instruction, using landscapes, still-life, photo
and plein air subject matter. Students at all levels of painting
experience are welcome.

COURSE
GOALS AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Class series is divided into
6 parts. Each class will begin with a short lecture and end with
a demonstration and hands on practice with materials and discussion
points in the lecture. The class is designed to present at least
one new idea for each class lecture.
CLASS CONTENTS: Each watermedia demonstration will explore part
of the possibilites of mixed water media painting, historically
and explore the practical ways to use them. There will be class
demonstrations on the practical aspects of materials creation
and their effects on the finished work. Class participation is
encouraged.
Artist’s
Statement: I don’t believe in talent. I do believe in desire
and tenacity. Desire will drive a student to acquire the information
and skills they need. Tenacity will keep them making art, when
others have moved on. I know from experience that a supportive
environment can work wonders. I was lucky enough to have some
of the best painting and drawing instructors in the Northwest.
Teaching allows me an opportunity to pay back a little of what
I owe.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Bring note making materials and questions.
You may also bring watercolor materials to practice the demonstration
points. The greater the class participation, the greater the material
covered and depth of content.
